Businesses that want to grow and expand must raise capital to fund their goals. For startups, the fundraising process can be extremely challenging.
Recently, the Birmingham Business Journal examined fundraising trends for startups in Birmingham and invited several investment banking experts to share their insights in a cover story entitled, “Funding deals grow for Birmingham firms, but experts see room for even more.”
One of the experts included in the piece was Porter White & Company’s own Michael Stone. Stone took some time to explain why startups face hurdles when raising funds for their businesses. “The high risks of startups – low profitability, few assets, lack of market acceptance, product risk – limit the ability for entrepreneurs to raise capital from outside sources without giving up significant ownership in the business,” said Stone.
