Professional Background

Marla began her accounting career employed by Sillavan Lumber where she acquired experience in financial reporting for the corporate headquarters and the eight retail branch locations. She focused on strengthening internal controls, conducting audits and managing logistics for inventory allocation which resulted in employee theft prevention, waste reduction and increased profitability.

In 2000, Marla became the Chief Financial Officer for Birmingham Printing & Publishing, Inc. In addition to financial reporting, cash management, and employee benefit administration, she developed the policy and procedures for an employee environmental and safety program. Through data analysis of information obtained in job costing, Marla also identified inefficiencies in the manufacturing processes of specific printed jobs which allowed management to alter the work flow and job prioritization to maximize equipment utilization.

Marla joined Porter White & Company and the financial services industry in 2006, where her primary focus has been financial and regulatory reporting. She provides additional bookkeeping services to clients. Marla also serves clients in the Investment Management practice by providing support for qualified retirement plan clients. In August 2015, she was authorized by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) to use the certification marks CFP®.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, Certified Financial Planner™ and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.
